Ambitious Dream: A Collaboration of Art and Literature

"Ambitious Dream" is a groundbreaking collaboration between renowned artist Koo Na Hyun and bestselling author JunHwan Chang. This unique exhibition brings to life the intense narratives from Chang's recent book, "변호사들 - 그들의 치열한 법정에서 한국 민주주의가 시작되었다" (Lawyers - The Birth of Korean Democracy in Their Fierce Courtrooms). The book is divided into three parts, highlighting the stories of eleven human rights lawyers who played pivotal roles in shaping Korean democracy: during the Japanese colonial period, the post-liberation and Yushin dictatorship era, and the New Military Regime.

Koo Na Hyun, celebrated for her distinctive series of portrait artworks, goes beyond expressive hyperrealism by embedding intricate stories within the faces she paints. In "Ambitious Dream," she transforms the powerful stories of these eleven courageous lawyers into her trademark style, offering a compelling visual homage. Her portraits not only capture the fierce determination and resilience of these figures but also weave their historical and personal narratives into the very fabric of the artwork. This approach aims to instill a deeper historical consciousness and appreciation among younger generations, bridging the past and present through reflective and evocative art.

This collaborative exhibition, hosted in New York, serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of freedom and democracy. "Ambitious Dream" is more than an artistic display; it is a celebration of courage, a tribute to the heroes of Korean democracy, and an invitation to viewers to engage with history through the powerful interplay of art and literature. By merging JunHwan Chang's evocative storytelling with Koo Na Hyun's narrative-infused portraits, the exhibition offers a profound and immersive experience, honoring the legacy of these extraordinary lawyers and their enduring impact on society.
